An unknown adult male allegedly tried to lure a female juvenile into his car Wednesday in Tinley Park, according to a social media post from Tinley Park officials.
The post from the verified account Tinley Park Public Safety detailed the incident, saying it occurred in the 16700 block of Harlem Avenue Wednesday, May 8, and is being investigated by the Tinley Park Police Department's investigations unit.
According to the post the girl was walking alone when she was approached by a male subject driving a red minivan. The subject reportedly asked the girl for directions before following her into the parking lot of a nearby business, where he "offered the victim cash in exchange for getting into his vehicle."
The girl, who the post says was "frightened," went inside the business and "alerted" employees of the incident, at which point the male subject reportedly fled the scene.
“[Police are] currently reviewing all the cameras in the area from businesses and surrounding residences, so they're trying to locate the vehicle on those," said Patrick St. John, the sergeant of operations and public information officer with the Tinley Park Police Department. "We do have a partial picture of the vehicle as it's driving behind the CVS. He exited the area at a very high rate of speed so there's a quick glimpse of the vehicle."
The offender is described as a white or hispanic male between 30 and 40 years of age and is "chubby," the post reads.
The post shared no further information about the subject.
"Information will be updated if it becomes available," the post says.
St. John said that incidents like these in Tinley Park are "very rare."
