Police have arrested and charged a man from Gary, Indiana, with murder in the death of a Gary woman who went missing following a concert July 27 in Tinley Park.
James Edward McGhee, 38, was arrested Aug. 14 in Lake County, Indiana, by the FBI and Indiana State Police, according to an update from FBI Indianapolis Division. McGhee has been charged with murder in the death of Sidne-Nichole Buchanan, 27, of Gary, Indiana, whose body reportedly was found Aug. 12 in the Thortnon-Lansing Road Nature Preserve.
A spokesperson from the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Aug. 14 the body found by police was that of Buchanan, but said the cause and manner of her death are pending. An affidavit filed in the Superior Court of Lake County noted that because of the state of the body upon discovery those details will require further examination.
Buchanan was reported missing July 29 by her family, after she was last seen July 27 at a concert in Tinley Park. Police asked for the public’s help Aug. 14 in a search for McGhee, who was the last person known to be with Buchanan at the concert, according to a press release from the FBI.
According to the aforementioned affidavit, police learned Buchanan went to the concert with McGhee but never returned home. Following the missing person report, police executed a search warrant on a Gary residence where McGhee is thought to have killed her, based on evidence discovered there.
An anonymous tip led police to a man thought to have helped McGhee dispose of Buchanan’s body. That man led police to the area where it was found, according to the affidavit.
