When her team’s 6-4 loss to the hosts in the Class 3A Oak Forest Regional title game was over, Tinley Park shortstop and three-sport athlete Kayla Serafini’s eyes were red with tears.

“I started in this program as the only freshman on the varsity, I ended as the only senior,” she said. “This means so much to me. I decided not to play in college, so this is my last game. To lose to a rival like this …”

Titans coach Wendy Podbielniak’s eyes were dry — until Serafini’s name came up.
