Joe Mackessy took off from his own 34-yard line, scrambling up the middle six minutes into his team’s 41-0 road loss at Hillcrest on Friday, Oct. 11.
The Tinley Park quarterback was hit just a few steps removed from the pocket, and as he bucked against the players hauling him down, he crumpled.
“I heard it,” wide receiver Johnny Gonsalves said. “Then I saw it. And it was not good.”
Quietly, he added, “Joe’s my brother. It was hard for me to see him like that.”
